"It's a great accomplishment after what happened yesterday," Aschenbach said in the report. "I totally understand what the series had to do. We respect that and we just have to move on...I'm just really, really excited about the win today. It's a little bit of vindication after yesterday. We'll take it and move on to Long Beach."

Aschenbach, 29, began racing as an 8-year-old, according to his profile on Lawson Aschenbach Racing. In 2006, he won the World Challenge GT Series in his rookie year.
