ESPN Honors Wootton's Skarupa

ESPN selects Haley Skarupa as one of the top 18 under-18 athletes in the country.

ice hockey standout Haley Skarupa was selected as one of ESPN.com's 18 Under 18, "honoring 18 female teen athletes who are doing remarkable things on the field, in the classroom and in their communities."

Skarupa was picked for her remarkable season with the Washington Junior Pride (107 goals through 38 games), her record-setting performance with Team USA at the Under-18 World Chamionships, and her 4.0 standing as a senior at Wootton High School.

Skarupa plans to attend Boston College next year and play hockey under former Olympian and Golden Eagles' Head Coach Katie King Crowley.

"Haley is a great hockey player and a great student," Crowley told ESPN. "With how much she has to travel and how much school she misses for hockey, it's unbelievable to me how well she's able to balance everything and maintain such a great GPA."

In January, Washington Junior Pride Head Coach Kush Sidhu told Patch he felt Skarupa was a once-in-a-generation player.
