• Garrett County Public Schools is Now Accepting Feedback for the Proposed 2026-27 School Calendar (deepcreektimes.com) — Garrett County Public Schools is asking families, staff, and residents to weigh in now on the proposed 2026–27 calendar, which affects all Oakland-area students. The draft starts classes August 31, 2026, ends June 3, 2027, and outlines snow-day and virtual-learning rules. Feedback is open through January 1, 2026, by Google Form, email, or mail to the Oakland office.
   

• Oakland Launches Online Zoning Permit Archive (deepcreektimes.com) — Oakland residents now have an online Zoning Permit Archive where they can easily track permit applications and approvals within town limits. This new tool, available under the “About” tab at oaklandmd.gov, is part of the town’s push for more transparency and helps you see what projects are proposed and how they move through the review process.
