GAMBRILLS, MD — A $1 million lottery jackpot recently left a married couple shouting for joy in Anne Arundel County.

The husband bought the $20 Millionaire's Club scratch-off at the Gambrills Wegmans grocery store to continue a family tradition.

“There’s an important day in our lives that we celebrate by buying each other a handful of scratch tickets,” the anonymous man told lottery officials in a Jan. 14 press release announcing the news. “I added Millionaire’s Club to the tickets I bought for her because of the million-dollar prize.”

Not believing their stroke of luck, the victors checked and rechecked their ticket by scanning it in the Maryland Lottery app.

“Neither of us could believe it. We were yelling, pacing around the room, bumping into each other, bumping into furniture. It was chaotic,” the couple said in the release.

The winners, one a nurse and the other a federal employee, called the top prize “life-changing.”

Wegmans, situated in the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre, shared in their good fortune. Located at 1413 South Main Chapel Way, the grocer collected a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the jackpot winner.

Millionaire's club debuted in July 2024. One more $1 million top prize is still in circulation, along with two $50,000 second-tier winners and six $10,000 winners.
