Anne Arundel County Senior Program Seeks Volunteers

Volunteers with a financial background are needed to help senior citizens file their tax returns.

Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities is looking for local volunteers with a background in finance to participate in its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.

This program helps adults over age 55 and low-income or disabled adults over 18 properly file their tax returns.

To receive help from a qualified volunteer, program participants must make an appointment at one of Anne Arundel County’s seven senior centers.

While volunteers with the Income Tax Assistance Program will receive training from the Maryland Comptroller’s Office and the Internal Revenue Service, they will only be tasked with helping seniors with simple income tax returns, not ones involving corporations or rental properties.

As a subsection of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities, the Retired Senior and Volunteer Program hosts this program and others for the benefit the community’s seniors. In addition to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, the Department of Aging and Disabilities also offers a Telephone Reassurance Program that makes regularly scheduled calls to program participants to confirm their well-being.
