Weather forecasts call for severe storms Thursday afternoon. Most stores in the area had plenty of essentials in stock.

With weather forecasts calling for severe storms this afternoon, now may be a good time to stock up on essentials.

Most large stores in the west Anne Arundel County area appeared to be well-stocked with water, batteries, milk and other key items, and lines were not long as of about 12:30 p.m.

If you do find yourself in need of supplies after the storm, Wegmans appears to have the largest amount of essential items in stock. And based on the experience following the major storm Sandy in October, Wegmans also has the ability to get shipments in quickly.

If you are in need of a generator, Crofton Powersports on Route 3 has them in stock, but it's best to call ahead to see whether it has a supply of generators in the capacity you need.

A couple of other suggestions:

  • Gambrills General Store will top off your propane tank to ensure you can at least grill outside if you don't have electricity to cook
  • Once the storm hits, avoid any low-lying areas, especially Patuxent Road in Odenton, which frequently floods.
