DUI Crash In Edgewater Kills Upper Marlboro Woman: Police
A DUI crash in Edgewater killed a 74-year-old woman from Upper Marlboro, police said. Officers arrested the suspect.

EDGEWATER, MD — An Upper Marlboro woman died days after an Edgewater crash where police said a driver was under the influence of alcohol.
Officers on Monday announced that 74-year-old Mary Elizabeth Cox died Saturday at the hospital.
Authorities previously announced that they arrested 64-year-old Joseph Henry Illig Jr. of Edgewater on charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol and causing a life-threatening injury.

Police said the crash happened on Feb. 17 around 1:50 p.m. on Mitchells Chance Road near Hamlet Club Drive.
Officers said Illig was driving a 2020 Chevrolet pickup truck that crossed the center of the roadway and hit a 2015 Ford pickup truck heading in the opposite direction.

Authorities said a Maryland State Police helicopter flew Cox, the passenger in the Ford, to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where she later died.
Neither driver was hurt.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department will consult with the county state's attorney regarding any applicable additional charges.
