Hanover Company to Film Wallenda's Grand Canyon Walk

Broadcast Sports, Inc. will install two wireless "POV" cameras to document Nik Wallenda's crossing of the Grand Canyon.

Hanover-based Broadcast Sports Inc. will play a key role in documenting an upcoming tightrope act at the Grand Canyon.

The company will outfit high-wire artist Nik Wallenda with two wireless "POV" cameras to film the 1,200-foot walk, which will be televised live on the Discovery Channel on Sunday. One of the cameras will be pointed straight ahead, with the other pointed straight down. There will four other wireless cameras to document the event in its entirety.

BSI first tested the POV technology in a WNBA game earlier in June.

"For Nik Wallenda’s tightrope walk, we need to cover the start and finish of the tightrope and every step in between from multiple angles in a remote area in what may be extreme conditions," BSI’s Technology Development Manager Clay Underwood, in a press release. "We’re preparing for all scenarios so we don’t miss a moment of this exciting event.”

Wallenda will attempt to cross the Grand Canyon at a point 1,500 feet above the Colorado. The daredevil previously crossed Niagara Falls on a wire last year.

He is descended from the famed "Flying Wallendas" family of high wire artists.
