Hundreds Gather at Local Church to Remember Deceased Teen

Jonathon Deckman, 18, was remembered at Heritage Community Church Sunday night.

The life of a Severn teen was honored and remembered Sunday night by friends and families in a candlelight vigil at .

Jonathon Deckman, 18, in a car crash that also killed his friend Jeffrey Giles and sent three others to shock trauma. The two teens were both pronounced dead at the scene. 

During the vigil hundreds gathered outside the church to hear from Deckman's parents and to celebrate his personality and influence on those who knew him.

A video from WBAL shows Deckman's mother, Charnell Parthemore, weeping as she speaks to those who loved her son.

"I don't understand it," said the mother. "But I do know for 19 years I have been blessed to know Jon, to be able hold him and love him."

David Deckman, Jonathon's 11-year-old brother, also spoke to the crowd and discussed his favorite memories with his big brother.
