Is a Parking Garage Coming to the MARC Station?

A transit-oriented project near the MARC station has stalled as officials try to find a way to fund the garage. The county has commissioned a study.

The Odenton community will get an update Tuesday on efforts to build a transit-oriented development at the MARC station that could include a structured parking garage.

The Odenton Town Center Plan Oversight Committee will be briefed on the latest efforts to get the project moving, as well as plans for a feasibility study for the garage.

The MARC station project is often referred to as Odenton Square, or simply the "TOD" project, and is viewed as a centerpiece in plans for the Odenton Town Center.

The project is led by Osprey Development in partnership with other developers, the county and the state, and calls for tens of thousands of square feet of housing, retail and other commercial space.

It also calls for structured parking at the MARC station in order to allowed for the desired density of development. But the project has stalled as officials seek to find ways to finance the construction of the garages, which has been estimated at roughly $10 million.

Parking is currently free at the MARC station's surface lots. It is still unclear whether commuters would be asked to pay to park in a structured garage.

Updates on Capital Projects, New Master Plan

The town center committee will also offer an update Tuesday on its efforts to prioritize capital projects in order to get them consideration in the county's budget for 2015.

The list of requests, which could include things like road improvements or other infrastructure needs, is seen as a key step in getting funding for needs in the Odenton Town Center.

The committee will also begin discussing changes to the Odenton Town Center Master Plan, which must be updated by next year.

Tuesday's meeting will take place Tuesday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Western District Police Station at 8273 Telegraph Road. The agenda for the meeting is attached.
