Man Shot in Severn, Police Ask Community for Help

Police say the man was shot in the leg, but has not helped police identify a suspect.

Anne Arundel County police are investigating a shooting incident in Severn on Thursday afternoon, but said they have not had much cooperation from the victim or members of the community.

Police said they responded at about 4:30 p.m. to the 8200 block of Marlton Court to a report of shots being fired. Officers spoke with the occupants of a townhouse who were celebrating the birthday of a child. There were six adults and four children at the party, ranging in age from 1 to 10.

According to police, one of the people in the house heard a gunshot that caused the front storm door to shatter. They also heard other shots, but none appeared to hit the house. One small child was struck by broken glass, but not hurt.

Around this time, officers learned that a 25-year-old man arrived at Baltimore Washington Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim told police he was walking to a relative's home when he was shot in the leg.

Police said the victim has not offered any detail about a possible suspect, and that the community has also been uncooperative.

"No suspect information has been developed at this time and this incident does not appear to be random in nature," police said in a press release. "It is believed that numerous witnesses were in the area and the Police Department urges residents to come forward to provide information to solve this crime."

Anyone with information on the case may call western district detectives at 410-222-6155 or the Anne Arundel County Police Department at 410-222-8610.
