Old Mill Grad Named National Merit Scholar

An Old Mill High School graduate is among the students in Anne Arundel County to earn recognition as a National Merit Scholar.Â
Xuefei Nou, who will study bioengineering at the University of Maryland, will earn up to $2,000 toward college. He was one of five students who were revealed as winners Tuesday, bringing the total number of local honorees to 11.Â
Other winners announced yesterday included Sarah Baker of Annapolis High, who will study applied mathematics at Claremont McKenna College; Cailin Oakes of Annapolis High, who will study earth science at the University of Minnesota; Evan Uthus of Broadneck High School, who will study anthropology at the University of Maryland; and of South River High School, who will study epidemiology at the University of Maryland.
In all, colleges will subsidize 4,300 scholarships through the National Merit Scholars program this year.Â
