Piney Orchard MOMS Club Finishes Service Campaign

The MOMS Club of Piney Orchard is holding one final community service effort before switching board members later this month. 

The club will hold fundraisers for Alex's Lemonade Stand on Saturday and Sunday, finishing a 12-month charity campaign that also included a backpack drive for the needy and holiday giving effort.

The club, which has about 50 active moms from Piney Orchard, hopes to raise a few hundred dollars for Alex's Lemonade Stand, which supports causes related to childhood cancer. 

MOMS Club leaders will meet again this summer to plan more charitable campaigns over the next 12 months. 

According to Abbey Boudreau, the club's vice president for service, this past year's community efforts included:

• The delivery of backpacks with school supplies for about 20 kids in the Piney Orchard community
• Food and gift cards for six needy families during the holidays 
• More than 300 boxes of kids bandages collected as part of a campaign to support the Johns Hopkins pediatric cancer wing
• Valentine's Day cards delivered to the O'Malley Senior Center
• Support for the Stork's Nest prenatal program at Baltimore Washington Medical Center

The MOMS Club will have a lemonade stand at GORC Park Saturday between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. It will also be on the trail along Strawberry Lake Way from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. 

"I just wanted to one last thing to hopefully push others do to even more," said Boudreau, a mother of two and the group's president-elect.

The MOMS Club of Piney Orchard will finish off the community service effort later this month with a reception honoring the top volunteers from the group.
