Police Charge Severn Man in Linthicum Robbery

Police followed a man after seeing him struggle with an employee inside a Royal Farms in Linthicum.

Anne Arundel County police arrested a Severn man Tuesday after officers witnessed an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Linthicum.

Police arrested Sherman Jerome Artis, 50, of Severn, and charged him with one count of robbery, one count of theft and one count of second-degree assault.

According to police, officers arrived shortly before 11 p.m., and saw a disturbance at the Royal Farms on the 400 block of South Camp Meade Rd. The detectives saw a struggle between a man and one of the store's employees, according to police.

Before the officers could approach the man, he ran out of the store and entered a gold Buick. Police followed the vehicle and made a call reporting a robbery.

The officers stopped the vehicle on Williams Rd. in Ferndale and detained the driver, until he was positively identified by the store employee.

Police did not release a mugshot as the investigation is ongoing.
