Police Investigate Attempted Robbery Near Hanover Safeway

A 21-year-old man said he was punched and kicked by two suspects, who drove off without taking anything.

Anne Arundel County police are investigating a report of an attempted robbery Monday in the parking lot of the Safeway near Arundel Mills. 

A 21-year-old man reported to an off-duty police officer that he was assaulted by two men at about 6:30 p.m., according to a police press release. 

The man said he was walking through the parking lot when two men in a black, 2006 Mazda approached him and asked for money. The victim refused the request, but the suspects them pulled in front of him and got out of their car. The two men then began kicking and punching the victim and rifled through his pockets, police said.

A witness yelled for the men to stop, and they drove off in the direction of Ridge Road, police said. 

The victim was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center for treatment.

Police described one of the suspects as a black man standing about 6 feet tall with a thin build, wearing blue jeans and a white shirt. He had a tattoo of “BMORE” on his left forearm. 

The second suspect is described as a black man standing 5 feet, 6 inches with a heavy build, short hair and a tattoo of a tribal band on his upper right arm.
