LINTHICUM, MD — A Chipotle Mexican Grill closed recently at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

The restaurant, known for its burritos and bowls, has been closed since Aug. 26, BWI Airport spokesperson Jonathan Dean told Patch on Thursday.

"We apologize for the temporary closure," read a sign posted outside the eatery by Fraport USA, the airport's concessions developer. "Please scan this QR code to discover the BWI Marshall shops, restaurants and services open for business for your travel needs."

Despite the sign mentioning a temporary closure, Dean and a Chipotle spokesperson both confirmed that the closure is permanent.

Chipotle did not answer Patch's questions about the reason for the closure or the number of employees it affected.

Patch asked Fraport if anything would immediately fill Chipotle's vacancy, but the company didn't respond.

When Patch visited the site on Sept. 28, the restaurant was covered up with a temporary roll-out facade.

The Chipotle marquee sign was still hanging, but behind the facade, all Chipotle branding was gone. Appliances had been removed, and the kitchen was empty.
