Quarterfield Student Takes Part in National Braille Competition

Sujan Dhaki, a second-grader, took part in competitions involving reading, transcription and typing.

A student at Quarterfield Elementary School in Severn competed against nearly 60 other blind students in the 2013 National Braille Challenge over the weekend. 

Sujan Dhaki, a rising third-grader at Quarterfield, was among the top qualifiers from a regional competition at the Maryland School for the Blind in February. At the national competition, he took part in challenges in transcription, typing and reading. 

According to a press release, Dhaki is fluent in English and Nepali and is hoping to learn Braille in Nepali.

“Sujan is every librarian’s dream student,” Quarterfield Elementary media specialist Linda Wallace said in the press release. “He loves to read and he is always interested in checking out a new chapter book, especially books from the Black Eyed Susan Collection."
