Ridgeway Elementary Community Raises $4,000 for Technology Upgrades

The school's PTA hosted its second annual Digital Dash, a 5K to help the school receive needed technology advancements.

About 170 people from the Ridgeway Elementary community helped raise more than $4,000 for new technology in the school's classrooms two weeks ago in the PTA's second annual Digital Dash.

Designed as a friendly 5K race throughout the relatively quiet streets of Severn, the event faces unfriendly temperatures and uncomfortably low temperatures. However, the students and their families braved the conditions to run, jump and race throughout the neighborhood and the indoor obstacle course.

Children from all ages participated in the event including Mitchell Long, a student who helped carry the Special Olympics Torch in Anne Arundel County.

While the final amount is still being calculated, PTA member Melanie Greenhill said the new revenue may be used to help bring more "smart boards" to each classroom, and increase computer capabilities throughout the school.
