Rosapepe to Call for Referendum on Transportation

Sen. Jim Rosapepe (D- District 21) said he will reintroduce a bill calling for a constitutional amendment to bring the issue of transportation funding to the voters. 

Rosapepe said he will work with Del. Brian Feldman (D-District 15) on an amendment authorizing the governor and legislators to craft a specific plan for infrastructure investment. Voters would then have the chance to vote on that plan through referendum. 

A constitutional amendment would be required because the constitution doesn't currently permit referendums of this kind. 

Rosapepe first introduced the idea during the legislature's second special session last August. He said the plan is needed because there is little faith that the legislature will approve an increase in the gas tax to pay for transportation improvements.
