School Board Works Toward Naming Interim Superintendent
The interim schools chief would serve through June 2014.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools is likely to have an interim superintendent for at least the next year following the recent resignation of Kevin Maxwell.Â
The county's Board of Education met Saturday in closed session to discuss the process of naming an interim leader. It will meet again at 10 a.m. on July 3.
Maxwell, who resigned to take the CEO position at Prince George's County Schools, had one year left on his contract in Anne Arundel County. The Capital-Gazette reported that Maxwell's contract required him to provide three months written notice if he left prior to June of 2014, and that he could face penalties. The board would have the ability to waive the penalties, the newspaper said.Â
"The Board of Education is working diligently to select an interim superintendent," the board said in a statement. "There are numerous legal and contractual issues that guide this process. When a superintendent resigns prior to the end of his or her contract, state law requires that an interim superintendent be appointed and serve until the following July 1st."
