Tough Morning Commute for MARC Riders

A disabled AMTRAK train leads to delays southbound on the Penn Line Thursday. Passengers pack onto Odenton's platform.

It was a tough morning commute for many local residents, as a disabled AMTRAK train led to long southbound delays on the MARC Penn Line.

According to the MARC email system, the delays started shortly before 7 a.m., when an AMTRAK train broke down just south of the BWI rail station. That led to delays of as much as a an hour that lingered throughout the morning, and hundreds of passengers were packed onto the platform on the Odenton MARC station.

Those passengers on Train 409 transferred to Train 511, while Train 413  and Train 415 took on passengers of Train 407. The transfers led to standing-room-only conditions for many trains.
