Upcoming 5k Runs in West County
It's perfect running weather, and there are plenty of opportunities to compete.

If you like to run, this is the time of year to do it. The weather is cool, and there are many groups organizing 5k runs and other races throughout the fall.
Here's a list of some upcoming 5k races. Click on the links for details on how to register.

When: Oct. 27, 9 a.m.
Where: Arundel High School, back parking lot.
Details: This run to benefit the Arundel Cross Country Team features ghouls and goblins along the trail, plus free child care for kids under 8. There will also be face painting, pumpkins and other fall fun.
Cost: $20 in advance, $25 day of race.

When: Oct. 20, 9 a.m.
Where: Grace Pointe Community Church of the Nazarene, 61 Gambrills Rd., Severn
Details: Funds from this run go to support the church's "Back Pack Buddies" program, which serves children who receive free or reduced lunch at school, but are in need of meals during weekends and holiday breaks.
Cost: $30.
When: Oct. 20, 9 a.m
Where: Meade High Track, 1100 Clark Road, Fort Meade
Details: Support the Meade High Track team with this run on the campus of Meade High.
Cost: $20, or $15 for students.
When: Oct. 27, 8 a.m.
Where: Fort Meade Pavilion
Details: Come out for the October run in the Fort Meade Run Series. All proceeds go to support the Fort Meade's Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation efforts. Costumes are encouraged. After the race, there will be a Halloween pet trick and costume contest.
Cost: $15 in advance, $25 day of race.
Girl Scout Turkey Trot 5k in Piney Orchard
When: Nov. 17, 8:30 a.m.
Where: Piney Orchard Community Center
Details: The "Run for Your Cookies" 5k will go to support Girl Scout Troop 5000, which is raising money for a trip to the Florida Keys. While there, they hope to learn about conservation and and animal behavior.
Cost: $25
