  • Hearts and Homes for Youth, Inc.
    Hearts and Homes for Youth, Inc. is a private, non-profit foster care agency that ensures a safe and therapeutic environment for foster children to grow and thrive. Volunteering with Hearts and Homes for Youth provides an opportunity to work directly with youth. There are many kinds of volunteers that are needed to enhance the services provided by the professional staff and foster parent team including: Mentors, Tutors, Child Care Volunteers, Transporters, and Enrichment volunteers.   • Junior League of Annapolis (JLA)
    The Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community in Anne Arundel County, MD; its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Volunteer opportunities, supporting children and families, include those involving Empowering Women, Helping Hands, and a variety of Done In A Day projects.     Open House: Thursday, Jan. 8, 6:30 p.m.
    A Junior League of Annapolis Open House for ladies interested in joining JLA will be held at Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge, 169 West Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. All women over the age of 21 years, living in Anne Arundel County and its vicinity, are invited to attend the open house event and apply for membership to the organization’s upcoming provisional training classes.   • Mt. Olive Community Life Center
    This is a program designed to mentor youth within the Greater Parole community to help improve their academic achievement while fostering a positive attitude toward learning. Mature student volunteers, ages 18 and older, are needed to teach basic skills in math, algebra, geometry, basic computer skills, homework assistance, reading, etc. In addition, volunteers are needed to provide office assistance during the day, and help with building and grounds maintenance.   • My Brother’s Pantry
    This nonprofit, located on the grounds of College Parkway Baptist Church in Arnold is supported by nine area congregations to provide food for families in crisis because of unemployment or disabilities. Volunteers are needed to work in the food pantry and to donate food and other items. Call 410-757-5190.
  • National Kidney Foundation of Maryland
    The National Kidney Foundation, a major voluntary nonprofit health organization, is dedicated to preventing kidney and urinary tract diseases, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by kidney disease and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation. Volunteers are needed to help with the upcoming Kidney Walk as follows:

    Kidney Walk: Sunday, April 19, 9 a.m.
    Community volunteers are needed to serve on a planning committee, help with walk day registration, set up and break down, and more. The event is being held at Camden Yards in Baltimore. The walk raises money for screening programs, education and patient services in Baltimore and surrounding counties as well as supporting national research and patient advocacy programs.   • Quilts for Kids, Annapolis Chapter
    The national organization’s mission is to keep fabric out of our landfills and bring happiness to children through the simple gift of a handmade quilt. Volunteers, age 12 and up, are needed for an ongoing project to serve children in hospitals and shelters in Annapolis and surrounding communities. Basic sewing skills are necessary but instruction will be provided for quilting. Volunteers must have a sewing machine and transportation. Quilting workshops are held monthly on the third Saturday of the month from 10:30 am to 1 p.m. at the Bay Area Community Church upstairs in room 223. Everyone is welcome!   • Peace Lutheran Church
    Volunteers are needed to teach English to Spanish speaking residents in Glen Burnie. The program runs from September to April every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Training is provided for anyone that is interested. No prior experience is necessary just the desire to help. If anyone is interested in donating their time for this wonderful and worthwhile community initiative please call Deacon Gail Wilson, Parish Administrator at 410-766-3283.   • Pearlstone Center
    The Pearlstone Center is a retreat center and farm with programs that enable and inspire vibrant Jewish life by engaging Jewish, faith-based, and secular organizations, individuals, and families. Pearlstone serves all ages and backgrounds throughout Baltimore, the Chesapeake region, and beyond. There is a continuing need for volunteers and interns for a variety of animal care and other farm tasks as well as for specialized projects including: Animal health, flowers & herbs, harvest handling, nutrition, landscape art projects, integrated pest management, marketing & design, compost & soil, green energy and more!   • Reading Partners
    Reading Partners is a nonprofit organization that recruits and trains community volunteers to provide one-on-one literacy tutoring to students who are struggling with reading. Tutors use a research-based curriculum, and program staff regularly assess students to benchmark and monitor student progress.Devoting just one hour each week to a student can make a tremendous impact. Last year, 94% of Reading Partners’ Baltimore students improved their rate of learning in reading, and three out of four narrowed their achievement gap.
