Western County Towns See Increase in Vehicle Thefts

Despite the increase in break-ins, a police spokesman said many of the incidents were avoidable.

Western Anne Arundel County towns like Severn and Hanover have seen a slight increase in the number of vehicles being broke into, according to a recent release from the county police department.

Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said a several incidents occurred last week where numerous vehicles were broken into and then had items stolen from inside.

In Crofton, Crownsville and Hanover, Mulcahy said roughly a dozen cars were involved in each spree. “At this time, the incidents appear to be spread out and unrelated,” he said.

The spokesman also said the cases were viewed as preventable since many of the cars that were broken into were unlocked.

Mulcahy reminded the public “to lock their vehicles, secure valuable by removing them out of the vehicle or placing them out of sight such as in a trunk.”
