Reisterstown Library To Reopen After Renovations, COVID Closure

The library's reopening, which comes after 14 months of renovations, will be celebrated with a ribbon-cutting at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

REISTERSTOWN, MD — After undergoing a 14-month renovation that began after its pandemic-related closure in March 2020, the Reisterstown branch of the Baltimore County Public Library will reopen on Tuesday.

Officials will mark the reopening with a ribbon-cutting and ceremony at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, and doors to the public will open at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The event will take place at the entrance on the side of the branch, which will be closed to traffic. Parking can be found by taking an immediate left just after the library, which is located at 21 Cockeys Mill Road, Reisterstown.

Sonia Alcántara-Antoine-Antoine, director of the Baltimore County Public Library, will welcome the community back to the library.

She will be joined by Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, Maryland House of Delegates Speaker Adrienne Jones, and Danielle Akwara from the Office of Dutch Ruppersberger.

The library now has a redesigned floor plan, an enclosure of the central courtyard, a new teen area and meeting room and a revamped children's area, library officials said in a news release.

Additionally, it now boasts the Preservation Station – a do-it-yourself digitization lab for preserving photos, films and family memories.

The Reisterstown branch of the Baltimore County Public Library first opened in 1961, the news release said, with the former Franklin Academy (founded in 1820) as its two-story core structure.
