Fallen Police Officer Has Overpass Dedicated To Her In Perry Hall

A fallen police officer was honored with a Perry Hall overpass dedicated to her. "Her spirit will never be forgotten," police said.

PERRY HALL, MD — A Perry Hall overpass was dedicated to a fallen police officer on Wednesday.

The pedestrian bridge to Honeygo Run Regional Park now honors the late Baltimore County Police Department Officer Amy Sorrells Caprio.

Caprio died in 2018 while responding to a call in Perry Hall, WBAL reported.

"I hope that everyone who sees this is reminded of all of our first responders. They're the ones who put their lives on the line for each of us every single day. I pray that we find positive memories to heal," said Debbie Sorrells, Caprio's mother, according to WBAL.

Caprio's parents, sister and niece stood alongside Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough, County Executive Johnny Olszewski, State Sen. Kathy Klausmeier and County Council Member David Marks.

The Baltimore County Police Department said, "Her spirit will never be forgotten."

"This sign stands as a tribute to Amy's selfless service and her enduring legacy in the community," McCullough said, according to WBAL. "It is a promise to remember, to reflect and to honor Amy's sacrifice, as well as those made by each of our fallen heroes here in Baltimore County."

The overpass now has memorial signs affixed to both sides of the bridge, which crosses Honeygo Boulevard.

"I thank our community and Police Department for championing her and this project so we never forget her sacrifice," Olszewski said on X, formerly Twitter. "We are forever grateful to all of our public safety professionals who make sacrifices every day to keep us safe. I thank Officer Caprio's family for joining us today and helping us remember Amy with joy and appreciation for her sacrifice."
