Fire At School Cancels Classes In Baltimore County

A fire forced a Baltimore County school to evacuate. Nobody was hurt, but Wednesday classes were canceled.

PERRY HALL, MD — A small fire broke out Tuesday evening at Perry Hall Elementary, forcing the school to cancel Wednesday classes.

The smell of smoke was detected on the second floor around 6:10 p.m. The Baltimore County Fire Department quickly evacuated all building occupants, located the flames and extinguished them.

Nobody was hurt, and the fire was contained.

Principal Ronesha Thompson said classes were canceled because of "the ongoing investigation and the impact on our heating system."

The Department of Facilities will be on-site Wednesday to address the school's facility needs.

At 9 a.m. Wednesday, it was still unclear whether students would return to class on Thursday.

"I want to thank our community for their cooperation as we navigated this incident, and I also want to thank BCoFD for their quick response and work to contain the fire," Thompson said in a Tuesday night letter to the school community.
