NOTTINGHAM, MD — Police said they shot a man who was armed with a BB gun Monday in the Nottingham area. The man is expected to survive.

A press release said one officer fired their department-issued patrol rifle, hitting the man.
Authorities said they rendered aid, and medics took him to a hospital.
Nobody else was hurt.
Police said they recovered a BB rifle that resembled a firearm from the scene.
The officer involved was wearing a body camera. The officer was placed on administrative leave, as per departmental policy.
The Baltimore County Police Department said it consulted with the Independent Investigations Division of the Office of the Attorney General, which investigates police-involved deaths.
Baltimore County police's homicide detectives, however, will handle the investigation.
"Whereas the Independent Investigations Division (IID) within the Office of the Attorney General is responsible for investigating fatal officer-involved shootings, or those likely to result in death, homicide detectives oversee officer-involved shooting cases in which the person survives," Baltimore County police spokesperson Joy Lepola-Stewart told Patch in a Tuesday email.
