Speed Cameras To Be Installed On I-95 In Baltimore County

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Speed cameras will be installed on Interstate 95 north in Baltimore County in December due to construction activities near the Harford County line, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

Construction crews are widening I-95 between MD 43 and MD 152 as part of the effort to extend the Express Toll Lanes north into Harford County.

Speed trailers posted on I-95 north near mile marker 67.5 will display drivers' speeds as they go by on the highway. Signage will also alert drivers before they hit the work zone.

Cameras will be installed Dec. 20, and warnings will be issued to speeders for three weeks.

Starting Jan. 20, Maryland State Police will send drivers $40 tickets if they exceed 65 mph in the construction zones. Tickets will go to the registered vehicles.

The cameras are designed to keep drivers aware of their speeds in work zones, which officials say can be dangerous even when crews are not physically there, because of uneven pavement, lane shifts, reduced shoulders and other modifications.

The Express Toll Lane extension between MD 43 and MD 152 will open by 2024. Authorities say the extension to MD 24 will open by 2027.

The $1.1 billion project, which started in May, is designed to relieve congestion and improve travel along the I-95 corridor into Harford County.
