BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A Rosedale man faces felony drug charges after a traffic stop near White Marsh, the Maryland Natural Resources Police reported on Monday.

Nwabueze Onyebuchi Nwaigwe, 21, was held without bail for more than two weeks, court records show.

Nwaigwe was arrested after a traffic stop that police said they conducted on a car that was speeding and had crossed the centerline in the area of White Marsh Boulevard several times at 11:58 p.m. on July 2.

Court records show that Nwaigwe, who lives in the 5000 block of Castlestone Drive, was stopped on MD 43/White Marsh Boulevard at Interstate 95.

"A strong odor of marijuana emanated from the car" when Nwaigwe rolled his window down, police said, and they confiscated some marijuana.

Officers said they found the following during a probable cause search:

  • Suspected oxycodone
  • Suspected psilocybin mushrooms
  • More marijuana

"Police could not locate a prescription for the marijuana or oxycodone," the Maryland Natural Resources Police said in a statement. "While the Maryland Natural Resources Police is a conservation law enforcement agency, officers still have statewide police authority. They are dedicated to protecting Maryland's citizens and will not turn a blind eye to any crimes committed."

As a result of the stop, Nwaigwe was charged with the following:

  • Two counts of possession with intent to distribute narcotics
  • Drug possession with intent to distribute
  • Three counts of possession of drugs other than marijuana
  • Possession of more than 10 grams of marijuana

He was also issued numerous traffic citations and warnings, and investigators determined his registration was not valid. The license plate and substances were confiscated, police said.

Nwaigwe was held without bail until Monday, July 18, when records show he was released on his own recognizance.
