2-Alarm Fire Destroys Rising Sun Barn

The fire took place Friday in Cecil County and drew eight companies from four counties between Maryland and Pennsylvania.

A Rising Sun barn used to store hay and feed was destroyed by a two-alarm fire Friday afternoon.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to a statement from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

"Due to the amount of fire damage, several ignition sources could not be ruled out," the fire marshal said.

The fire took approximately an hour to control, and caused $50,000 in damage to the 40-foot-by-80-foot barn and its contents, the fire marshal said.

No injuries were reported.

Crews first responded to the blaze at 4:08 p.m. on Friday in the 400 block of Connelly Road in Rising Sun. The two-alarm fire drew approximately 60 firefighters from Rising Sun and Port Deposit, as well as Harford County crews from Darlington and Level,  and Lancaster County, PA crews from Robert Fulton and Quarryville, and Chester County, PA crews from Oxford and Cochronville, the fire marshal said.
