Elkton, MD: Cecil County Executive Danielle Hornberger declared a Local State of Emergency yesterday in response to damage caused by remnants of Hurricane Ida. The state of emergency will allow Cecil County to deploy additional resources, receive emergency assistance from our state-level partners, and implement powers to protect the health and safety of residents.

No major injuries have been reported as the result of the storm, however, public infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, and residential and commercial properties throughout the County have sustained damages from floodwaters and wind debris. This state of emergency will provide Cecil County (including our municipalities) with greater flexibility in emergency response efforts, the sheltering of those displaced, and public infrastructure repair and cleanup.

“The remnants of Hurricane Ida caused damages throughout Cecil County and this declaration will assist greatly in our efforts to assist those severely impacted”, stated County Executive Hornberger. “I sincerely thank our Department of Emergency Services and first responders for their brave efforts in keeping Cecil residents safe.”

Cecil County Government’s Department of Emergency Services and Department of Community Services are working collaboratively with the Cecil County Health Department, Cecil County Department of Social Services, Meeting Ground, Inc., Cecil County Public Schools, and the Delmarva Chapter of the American Red Cross to provide temporary emergency shelter, food, and supplies to the residents impacted by the remnants of Hurricane Ida.

The Department of Public Works is actively monitoring road closures due to high water and debris around Cecil County. A list of county road closures can be found here:
