Cecil Del. Michael Smigiel A Finalist To Replace Sen. E.J. Pipkin
Michael Smigiel is one of two people for Gov. O'Malley to select to serve as state senator representing the northern Eastern Shore, including Cecil County.

Gov. Martin O'Malley will select a new state senator from his rival party to replace departed Sen. E.J. Pipkin.
One of the two finalists for the seat, according to The Sun, is Cecil County-based Del. Michael Smigiel. O'Malley's other option is Del. Steve Hershey of Queen Anne's County, the report stated.
Smigiel, 55, has been a delegate since Jan. 2003.
Pipkin resigned Aug. 12 to pursue a degree in Texas. Smigiel earned Pipkin's endorsement to serve as his replacement.
Whoever is appointed to the post will hold it for the remainder of the term. The position will be up for election in 2014.
Smigiel, according to The Sun, had already intended to run for the seat in 2014.
