Perryville Fire to Host Dec. 14 Volunteer Opportunities Open House

10 a.m. - noon. Meet emergency & non-emergency volunteers and find YOUR perfect way to make a difference! Free coffee & donuts!

The Community Fire Company of Perryville will on Saturday, Dec. 14 host the Perryville Fire Volunteer Opportunities Open House, an event with a mission to match potential volunteers with a role that’s just right for them.

Local residents are invited and encouraged to stop by the firehouse, 920 Principio Furnace Road, between 10 a.m. and noon to meet volunteers in a variety of roles; share coffee, donuts, and conversation; tour the station; and discover a fulfilling and exciting way to help their neighbors.

“We have an immediate need for firefighters and junior firefighters, EMTs, fire police, and non-emergency volunteers,” said Perryville Chief Bradley Willis. “Come talk to us about your interests and we’ll help you find exactly the right volunteer opportunity. No experience is necessary – if you’re willing to help, we will teach you everything you need to know.”

“It’s a joy to help keep my community safe and I found a whole second family to hang out with,” said Fire Captain Harold Riale Jr.

“It is rewarding to assist the public and have camaraderie with each other,” said Terri L. Grove, a non-emergency volunteer.

Paramedic Melody Buchanan joined as soon as she could - when she was 16. “There is a lot that can be gained from being a volunteer,” said Buchanan, a third-generation member who chairs the Membership Committee. “Helping the community is number one, and some of us have also made a career in first response.”

While volunteers must be at least 16 years old, there is no upper age limit.

“If you are looking for a place to volunteer for your community, the fire company is your place,” said Company Vice President and Paramedic Karen Reinhart. “There is plenty to do for everyone – not only firefighting or EMS. You become family.”
