Jobs Coming to Goodwrappers in Baltimore County

Seven new jobs and $5 million in new equipment are planned for a Halethorpe manufacturer.

Goodwrappers is located in Baltimore County's Southwest Enterprize zone on Halethorpe Farms Road.

"The locally-owned company expects to add seven new jobs as it expands its manufacturing, warehouse and distribution operation," according to a news release from Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz's office.

According to the release, "The Baltimore County Department of Economic Development is facilitating a $5 million Industrial Revenue Bond (IRB) for the company."

There's no liability to the county, and it will help Goodwappers borrow money for equipment at a lower interest rate.

Baltimore County Council will vote to approve the IRB at its Sept. 4 meeting.

The company plans to add seven new jobs.

"Goodwrappers is exactly the type of small business that is pulling our economy back to health," Kamenetz said in a statement.  "This Baltimore County company started here, is growing here, and is making a solid capital investment and creating new jobs."

Companies in the zone can get state and county property tax credits and tax credits for each new job brought to the zone, the release states.

Companies moving or expanding there over the past five years added over 750 new jobs in this traditionally industrial area, it states. New and expanding companies include Ferguson Enterprises, Environmental Quality Resources, Federal Express, Special Distribution, Bakery Express, and Saver Automotive.

Goodwrappers, which manufactures industrial and consumer stretch wrap products, began in 1977 in the basement of a Woodlawn house.

"The company expanded to warehouse space in Woodlawn, then moved to Halethorpe in 1992 to take advantage of rail service that delivered raw materials directly to their plant," the release states.
