Bomb Threats Reported At 2 Montgomery County High Schools
High schools in Bethesda and Potomac were evacuated after anonymous bomb threats were made Wednesday morning.

POTOMAC, MD — Two Montgomery County high schools were evacuated after anonymous bomb threats were reported Wednesday morning, officials said.
The first threat was phoned in to Winston Churchill High School in Potomac at about 7:20 a.m.
Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda received a bomb threat and was evacuated at about 10:52 a.m.

It's been a week since 17 people were gunned down at a Parkland, Florida high school, and in the days since Montgomery County schools have seen a rash of threats.

At least six schools in the county have received threats since the shooting. On Tuesday, police said they were investigating a rumored threat made towards Gaithersburg High School.

On Feb. 15, Alwin Chen, 18, of Germantown was arrested for bringing a loaded handgun and knife to Clarksburg High School.
A 15-year-old student was arrested for allegedly making online threats to Northwest High School in Germantown on Feb. 16.
Superintendent Jack R. Smith wrote a letter to parents on emergency preparedness, saying: "Many parents have asked questions about what we do as a district to keep students safe in emergency situations. I want to assure you that we take the safety and security of our students and staff very seriously. MCPS takes a multi-pronged approach to keep schools safe."
