UPDATED: Brickyard Farm Supporters Submit Official Proposal For Educational Farm
Supporters of Nick's Organic Farm on Brickyard Road are officially submitting to the county today a proposal to create an educational farm on Brickyard Road for Montgomery County students.

Original story, March 1: Responses to Montgomery County's to turn the organic farm on Brickyard Road into soccer fields are due today, but soccer plan proposals aren't the only thing the county has seen in response.
Supporters of , have submitted an unsolicited proposal to the county this afternoon offering the creation of an agricultural education program to launch on the Brickyard site.

In January the county released its requests for proposal specifically asking for soccer field development plans, but those heading the educational farm project hope the county will consider an alternative plan that saves the nationally recognized organic farm while meeting the requirements of the state's recent "No Child Left Inside" mandate.
The educational farm project is headed by Sophia Maravell, daughter of farmer Nick Maravell, Dea Keen, a part-time employee of Nick's Organic Farm, and Sara Shor, an organizer of the Save Nick's Organic Farm movement.

“We have a viable plan to use this school land to teach kids about food, farming, water, soil and the environment,” Sophia Maravell said. “This type of outdoor education benefits everyone in the county, and helps the county meet the requirements of its ‘No Child Left Inside’ mandate.”
