All Outer Loop Lanes Open But Delays Remain After Collision: MDOT

All vehicles involved in the collision on the Outer Loop of I-495 at the American Legion Bridge have been cleared but delays remain.

POTOMAC, MD — Maryland Department of Transportation reported in an 11:11 a.m. alert that all lanes of the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway/I-495 had been cleared on Thursday following a multi-vehicle collision at the American Legion Bridge.

Units from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded around 10:30 a.m. for the report of a collision involving several vehicles on the Outer Loop at the bridge, according to a MCFRS post on Twitter.

An MDOT camera showed around 10:54 a.m. that the two vehicles involved in the crash had been moved to the right shoulder of I-495, but delays remained for traffic traveling southbound from Potomac, Maryland.

Both the Outer Loop-right shoulder and right acceleration lane after the exit for Clara Barton Parkway were closed while the vehicles were closed for a time, according to an MDOT alert.

At 11:05 a.m., the MDOT camera showed that the vehicles involved in the collision had been cleared and all lanes had reopened to traffic. Traffic continued to be heaving traveling southbound from Maryland.

No injuries from the collision have been reported.
