Is Corporate Social Responsibility Dead?

An eye-opening look

We are most fortunate that Montgomery County is home to many socially responsible companies. They have contributed to the well-being of our community, while at the same time enhancing shareholder value. Their contributions run the gamut from college scholarships to support for local parks to art fair sponsorships and much more.

The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County applauds businesses that take their social responsibilities seriously.

On April 27, the League will sponsor a screening of “Why is Mona Lisa Smiling: A Re-imagination of the Corporation” at the Writer’s Center in Bethesda. The documentary explores the influence of the Renaissance on business, philanthropy, and corporate citizenship via interviews with prominent business leaders. The event will open with a wine and cheese reception at 2 pm. A sure-to-be spirited discussion on corporate social responsibility in the context of today’s political turmoil will follow the film. More information about the League’s “Sunday at the Movies” and ticket prices can be found at lwvmocomd.org.
