Local Hero: Potomac's Curtis Southworth Helps Families In Need
We all know someone who's making a difference. Here's a Potomac teacher, who cares for his students as well as people in the community.

POTOMAC, MD — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.
This submission comes from Ms. Aman Shergill who nominated Mr. Curtis Southworth of Potomac. Southworth is not only the best teacher any student could have in their high school career, he also cares about helping people in the community, Shergill said.

How do you know the local hero?
Churchill High School AP teacher
What does the local hero do?
He was my son’s AP teacher almost five years ago. When the pandemic started, we reached out to him and others to help us with food distribution. For the last two years, rain or shine, he has dedicated his Sunday mornings to helping us deliver food for families in need. At one point he was taking close to 20 deliveries to those unable to leave their homes for whatever reason.
Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?
He’s dedicated to helping families in need. Without fail, he arrives on time to the Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, Sikh Spiritual Center in Rockville and takes milk, bread, produce, non-perishables and freshly prepared meals to families who are struggling to put food on their table. As a volunteer (outside of his teaching job) he’s often donated items such as beds, clothes and more for our collection drives to support our local community and the list is endless.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?
He’s not only the best teacher any student could have in their high school career, he’s also very kind, caring, understanding and dedicated to the community he serves. It’s a blessing to have him in our lives.
Thank you for all you do, Mr. Curtis Southworth!
