Capital One, Baker Officially Open Bank at Parkdale High
The bank is the first in the region that is student-operated.

Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker and officials from and Prince George's County Public Schools officially opened the student-operated branch of Capital One at .
"The administration applauds this commitment to financial education, and I commend the students at Parkdale High School for their efforts to prepare themselves for their financial futures," County Schools Superintendent William R. Hite, Jr. said.
Ten students participated in a seminar in Newark, NJ for a hand-ons lesson in banking and the financial markets this summer. Through working at the branch, students learn about a future career and they are also responsible for furthering the financial literacy of their peers.

Parkdale High School student banker Bladimir Martinez said working at the bank has allowed him to see how much education plays a role in students' lives.
"Before this program I wasn't really considering college, but now that has changed," Martinez said. "This opportunity that I have at hand today has given me more than enough reasons to seek a change in my life. I now dress differently; I now speak differently; I now circle myself with a different crowd; and most importantly, I now make different decisions."

Principal Cheryl Logan said the school is proud to be chosen as a part of this program with Capital One Bank.
"Many local families -- parents of our students -- have been challenged by recent economic times, and we want to teach our children how to prepare for their future," Logan said. "Through this program, we are providing our youth with the critical skills and practical experience that will help them to succeed in the real world."
