Woman Rams Car Into State Patrol Vehicle During Multi-County Chase

ELKRIDGE, MD — A Howard County woman has been arrested after ramming a Virginia State Police vehicle and leading police on a chase through Prince George's and Howard counties.

Shortly before midnight on Dec. 29, the Maryland State Police College Park and Forestville barracks were alerted to a vehicle pursuit that had been initiated by Virginia State Police and crossed into Maryland on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Flight crews from the Maryland State Police Aviation Command helped track the suspect’s vehicle during the police pursuit.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle driven by Naturi Michon Hayes, 24, of Elkridge, crossed into Maryland, traveling through Prince George's, then Howard County where Hayes rammed a Virginia State Police marked patrol vehicle, causing the patrol vehicle to hit the concrete barrier, authorities reported.

After crashing in the area of Washington Boulevard and Meadowridge Road, Hayes jumped out of the vehicle and took off on foot. She was arrested by troopers without incident, the Maryland State Police said.

The Virginia state trooper injured in the crash was taken to a local hospital where he has since been released, according to police. Hayes was taken to a local hospital and then later sent to the Prince George’s Department of Corrections where she is waiting to be seen by a court commissioner.

Hayes has been charged with first-degree assault, attempt by driver to elude uniformed police, failure to stop after accident involving damage, aggressive and reckless driving, and other traffic-related charges.
