DTLR Awards Second Annual HBCU Scholarship to Local Student

DTLR awarded Nya Evans a $2,000 scholarship toward the 2022-2023 school year

DTLR, one of the country’s most successful lifestyle retailers with more than 240 stores in 19 states, recently announced the recipients of its second annual HBCU Scholarship Program. The scholarship awarded a total of $10,000 to five high school seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate program at an HBCU. Each scholarship recipient received $2,000 toward the 2021-2022 school year. Student and Bladensburg local, Nya Evans, is a recipient of the DTLR HBCU scholarship, and plans to attend North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

“The awarded students this year show hard work, dedication to their communities and commitment to their education, and we are thrilled to be able to help them pursue a higher education at an HBCU,” said Tremayne Lipscomb, Community Outreach Director at DTLR. “We look forward to continuing our annual tradition to provide scholarships to prospective HBCU students in the future.”

To be considered for this scholarship, students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). Other considerations include academic performance, demonstrated leadership, and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of career and educational goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances and an online recommendation.
