'Glacial' Paced Development, Jazz on the Lawn, Safeway Stalled?

Five things you need to know in Riverdale Park and University Park today.

1.) AROUND TOWN » Check out Bruce Ewan at Riversdale Mansion Wednesday night for Jazz on the Lawn

2.) YOU SAID IT » Donald James  - The pace of development moves at a glacial pace in PG County. I agree with Jonathan, we need more varied uses instead of the status quo. We should always push for high quality, but opposing everything sets a bad precedent. There needs to be a unified vision that brings people out of their cars. We need more things that make the area vibrant like restaurants, pubs, bars, clothing stores. Not just liquor stores, 7-11's, beauty salons, etc. I would like to stay in PG county and watch and help the county transition, but with the wait and obstruction from residents and politicians we've had, I'll probably be moving into DC in the fall to the get kind of lifestyle I want. Albeit at a higher price. A suggestion for the vacant storefront on Baltimore Avenue in Riverdale Park.

3.) WEATHER » Another dreary day is up ahead. Expect showers throughout the day and a thunderstorm sometime between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. Highs will be low-80s and evening lows will be in the low-70s. Take a look at the week ahead here.
