University Park Council Votes on Ethics Code

that would adjust the town's ethics code so that it would be compliant with state code.

Maryland’s Annotated Code states that counties must enact standards to create public ethics guidelines for local officials relating to conflicts of interests, financial disclosures and lobbying.

It means council will have to release more information when running for office like real property, corporations and partnerships,non-corporate businesses and gifts.

Many other municipalities throughout the state have done the same, but now the language must be approved by the state's ethics commission before it can be effective.
