Elrich Named Democratic Nominee For Executive After Recount

After a tight race against David Blair, a recount confirmed Marc Elrich is the Democratic nominee for county executive.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — A recount confirmed at-large county council member Marc Elrich is the Democratic nominee for Montgomery County executive after a tight race against David Blair.

Blair asked for a partial recount of provisional and absentee ballots at two precincts on Thursday after he los by 79 votes.

The Montgomery County Board of Elections said Monday that Elrich was the winner, but lead by 77 votes instead of 79.

The final vote tally determined Elrich received 37,532 votes, while Blair had 37,455.

“It’s good to know they’ve done the recount and the result’s the same,” Elrich said, according to The Washington Post. “It was a hard-fought election.”

The Post reports Blair said he will support Elrich instead of council member Nancy Floreen, whoi is working to gather signatures for an independent run.

Elrich will face Republican candidate Robin Ficker and possibly Floreen in November.
