POOLESVILLE, MD — A fire in an historic farmhouse in Poolesville Sunday caused extensive damage Sunday afternoon, according to Pete Piringer, spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service.

Firefighters were dispatched to Muldoon's Farm at 18911 Beallsville Road around 4:15 p.m. for reports of a house fire.

The homeowner suffered minor injuries trying to extinguish the fire before firefighters arrived, Piringer said.

The two-story home was built in 1897, FOX Baltimore reported.

Flames engulfed both floors of the farmhouse when firefighters arrive, officials said.

The fire began in the office area on the first floor and spread to the second floor, causing significant damage, Piringer said. The cause of the blaze is believed to be accidental.

A dollar amount for the damage has not been released.
