Montgomery County Awards 12 Small Business Matching Grants

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Twelve small businesses in Montgomery County were awarded with a total of $425,000 in matching grants, the county announced Tuesday. All 12 companies applied for the county's new Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Matching Grant Programs.

To qualify, each eligible company must have been awarded a Phase I or Phase II grant during the current calendar year by the National Institutes of Health. Moreover, 51 percent or more of the company's research and development operations was required to have been conducted in Montgomery County.

“I applaud the County Council’s leadership in supporting the growth of our early-stage biotech companies by creating this matching fund,” said County Executive Ike Leggett. “It builds on the County’s consistent support over the years to ensure Montgomery County is a national and global leader in leveraging our biomedical R & D assets to grow companies and jobs while saving and improving lives.”

Under the County’s program, companies are eligible to receive a match of 25 percent up to a maximum of $25,000 for an SBIR/STTR Phase I grant or a match of 25 percent up to a maximum of $75,000 for an SBIR/STTR Phase II grant. Of the 12 awards, nine were for Phase 1 grants and three were for Phase II grants.
The companies receiving Phase 1 matching grants include:

• miRecule
• TeraImmune
• Otomagnetics
• Creatv MicroTech
• MockV Solutions
• Primetime Life Sciences, LLC
• Weinberg Medic Physics
• Celloptic, Inc.

The companies receiving Phase II matching grants include:

• OncoImmune
• Sanaria
• MIMETAS

Beginning July 16, 2018, applications were accepted on a first come, first serve basis until the program’s funds were encumbered. The Montgomery County Council approved $425,000 to support the SBIR/STTR matching grant program in fiscal year 2019.
