Archdiocese to honor Dr. Martin Luther King at Annual Mass (cathstan.org) — Rockville’s Shrine of Saint Jude Catholic Church on Viers Mill Road will host the Archdiocese of Washington’s annual Mass honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Residents are invited to join Catholics from across the region to pray, reflect on racial justice, and celebrate King’s legacy under the theme ā€œThe Church and the Dream: Building Peace through Justice.ā€

Bus Shelter Upgrades Underway at Shady Grove Metrorail Station (mocoshow.com) — Bus shelters at Shady Grove East Metrorail Station in Rockville are being replaced through early February, temporarily closing some bays and shifting several Ride On and Metrobus routes to alternate, ADA-compliant stops. Riders should watch for posted signs, allow extra time, and check WMATA and Ride On channels for the latest boarding locations during the two construction phases.

3. 7 Car Rallies Broken Up, 4 Arrested In Howard, Prince George's Counties (patch.com) — Police stopped a planned illegal car rally at 702 King Farm Boulevard in Rockville as part of a multi-county crackdown on dangerous driving exhibitions. The Maryland Car Rally Task Force broke up seven events across Howard, Prince George’s and Montgomery counties and made four handgun-related arrests. Rockville residents may notice increased enforcement around popular gathering spots like King Farm.

SoberRide Surpasses 100,000 Free Rides During New Year's Holiday (mocoshow.com) — Rockville residents can tap the regional SoberRide program, which just surpassed 100,000 free New Year’s rides, to get home safely from major drinking holidays. The Lyft-based service operates across Greater Washington, including Rockville and other Montgomery County cities, and is credited with helping reduce impaired-driving deaths. It’s offered on select holidays like New Year’s, Halloween, and the Super Bowl.

New cervical cancer screening guidelines released by Health Resources and Services Administration (wsbradio.com) — Rockville-based federal health officials at HRSA have issued new cervical cancer screening guidelines that could affect how your doctor or insurer handles routine tests. Women 30 to 65 are now advised to get a high-risk HPV test every five years, including an at-home option, while Pap test guidance for younger women remains unchanged and private insurance coverage for the new option begins in 2027.
