Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Derwood Area: Police

Authorities say a 59-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle Monday morning in the Derwood area.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle early Monday in the Derwood area, according to Montgomery County police.

Authorities were called to the intersection of Shady Grove and Briardale roads for the report of a collision around 5:55 a.m.

A preliminary investigation by police determined that the pedestrian — Jose Amaya Flores, 59, of an unknown address — was crossing Shady Grove Road when he was hit by a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. A 2014 Toyota Prius, also traveling on Shady Grove Road, then rear-ended the Honda Ridgeline.

Amaya Flores was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is underway. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-77-6620.
